Art Appreciation
Art plays an important role in the learning and development of young children. Works of art, whether created by known artists or by the children themselves, expand and make concrete the child`s knowledge of the world.Children are naturally creative and artistic. The Garderies K.I.D.S. Art Appreciation Program provides children with opportunities to express themselves and develop their creativity. The program focuses on introducing our children to different styles of art such as: modernism, impressionism, pointillism, abstract, surrealism, popart, cubism and much more. The children discuss the themes and techniques used, then explore the children’s own creative abilities using these styles as inspirations.
Art offers children an opportunity to express themselves and to explore their environment and their self-awareness. Children can even use art as a method of communication before they are able to use language. Studies have shown that engaging in art increases a child’s confidence and self-esteem. This is why our program puts emphasis on process over product.

Through art, children are introduced to new concepts, ideas and cultures. They enjoy different perspectives and solidify concepts being worked on in our monthly educational themes. This is also made possible as the children explore the many styles through the works of several artists every month.
